Let me tell you a story…..
Hello,
Welcome! I am so glad you stopped by!
My name is Jamie I am the creator of Sweet Pickins. In this first Blog post I want to tell you a little about myself and how I got started, buckle up it may be long! First off, I am a proud mom of 3 kids. My kids are all grown and have started their adventures, so I have become a mom to George and Hazel June, my two Mini Dachshunds that act as sidekicks when I create. I have lived in Nevada most of my life where I have raised my kids, chickens, and dogs!
Creating is in my blood as my family sold their items at craft shows for as long as I can remember. My oldest son was 3 and I realized I needed a little extra money for Christmas, so I decided to try my hands at crafting. I started out making little ornaments and shelf sitters just to make a little money. I sold my goods in my mom’s booth, and this went on for a few years and as those years passed the small items became big items that filled up bins in my garage. I decided to name my business Red Barn Craft Co that was born within a couple of years of having my own booth next to my moms and that was all she wrote. I fully caught the bug. I had Red Barn for 14 years when I knew it was time to take my business to the next level.
In 2014, I started looking for a small retail space which was the next step in my journey. As I was looking for something affordable, not caring too much about how big or ideal it was I just wanted a space. I knew it was time to move on from my original name and create a name that was unique and that I could sell many different styles under. I came up with Sweet Pickins, at the same time I found the most unconventional space in a basement of a building with no heat, air or bathroom and it had two flights of stairs. I could see past all the imperfections as it was in my budget, and I knew I could make this work. Sweet Pickins opened in July of 2014. I met so many wonderful people and had such loyal customers. The store stayed open until 2017 and closed due to circumstances out of my control. I looked for about 6 months for another location, however I was unsuccessful as that was the time the rent prices were going through the roof, so I was forced to solely go back to selling only at shows. Part of me was sad, my store was my dream, and don’t get me wrong it was hard to run a store and make sure I was at all the sporting events for my 3 kids as well. The store filled my soul, I knew this was just a season and Sweet Pickins was here to stay.
Fast forward to 2023, I am still here selling my goods at shows and on social media and now this website. My son has pushed me to get this up and going so here it is. I am still doing shows and thinking about opening another store. Only time will tell.
I am excited to bring you this website that will contain items I love and hope you will to, It will be filled with Vintage, Handmade, Handpicked goods and I will be restocking weekly. I will also have a weekly blog, you will see me at more shows this year, and of course on social media. I will invite you into my Home and show you my space, we will craft together, cook together, and decorate 2023 is going to be great year I can feel it!
I am Thankful you have found my small business and excited for what is to come.
